 Post subject: Helldagrif - Whaddya gonna do about it?

So, many moons ago, Stardust mocked up the card that my avatar is based on. In this year's gift exchange, I received a foil one, which is just awesome. Therefore I am going to build a deck around him, and hope I can get my group to let me use it, at least sometimes.

So I'm thinking this will be a RWB control deck with the general as a finisher. I want to make plenty of room for random stuff I never get to use anywhere else, like Fervent Charge. I hope to make the deck play differently than my Brion Stoutarm deck, so not too many cards in common would be good. Most notably I will be staying away from the otherwise awesome Sunforger.

That could actually come in handy sometimes. For instance, in response to Living Death being cast.

Do you have any theme in mind, or is this just going to be a WBR goodstuff deck? Maybe you could go with a Knights subtheme (White Knight, Black Knight, Blood Knight, etc.)?

General purpose suggestions for multicolor cards in your colors:
I would suggest Hide // Seek, Angel of Despair, Deathbringer Liege, Debtors' Knell, Divinity of Pride, Everlasting Torment, Kulrath Knight, Murderous Redcap, Rain of Gore, Rise of the Hobgoblins, Stillmoon Cavalier, Unmake

A few other decent cards to use:
Tenza, Godo's Maul, Braid of Fire, Loxodon Warhammer, Scythe of the Wretched, Magmatic Core, Radiate, Detonate

If you have protection from Red then you can use his last ability without taking damage. If you give him lifelink then when he deals damage to himself you gain that much life. If you give him protection from black then he can gain deathtouch without dealing himself any damage.

He seems kinda underpowered to me. I'd call him a Heckdagrif. But I'd be scared if he had a way to gain flying...you know, to make his wings actually matter 'n stuff.

I said as much to Stardust when he mocked the card up way back when. The white ability probably should have been flying instead of first strike, but meh. I'm still pumped.

Yeah, it even makes stylistic sense! I can just see a freakin' two-ton hippo with Griffin wings trying to get off the ground:

"OK, flap those wings...GAAAAHH! Ouch! OW! Can't...stop...dragging the ground! OK, now I'm up...AHH! *bounce bounce* "AAAAGGGHHH!!" *hits tree limb*...

Easy solution: next Grixis, have him make you a HelliGrif with the flying ability!

With all those enchantments I'd use Serra's Sanctum, if you have one. Also Spirit Loop could be cool. And of course, Flying Carpet. I SOOOOO want to see a Hippo on one of those things...hell I should take a road trip just to play against that deck!
